The Birth Date is a rough estimate. See the text for details.

John Graham was born about 1360 in Kincardineshire, Scotland. His birth date is estimated on his status as the third son, his elder siblings having been born after his father's marriage in 1353. He was the son of Sir David Graham of Kincardine and Old Montrose, [1] and his wife Helen, formerly wife of Reginald le Cheyne. [2] [3]

The Grahams of Tamrawer, Stirlingshire, are descended from Graham of Dundaff, the adjacent Barony [4] They are said to be of the same lineage as the Grahams of Knockdolian, both families being descended from Walter Graham of Wallacetown, a cadet of the Montrose family [5]

John was the ancestor of Robert Graham who was responsible for the widespread culture of the potato in Scotland from about 1739 [6]

In 1370 he is claimed as ancestor of the Grahams of Morphie and therefore also the progenitor of the Grahams of Auchencloich in Kilsyth and their branches [1] [7] [8]

He had the lands of Auchencloich and Tamrawer, a single property, later separated into two separate properties in 1614, when Robert Graham of Auchencloich conveyed Tamrawer to William Graham, a kinsman, probably his brother [9] Tamrawer formed part of the lands of Auchencloich, in the Parish of Monyaburt, afterwards Kilsyth, Stirlingshire, Scotland and was the property of the Grahams from very early times.

His wife is unknown but he had a son Gilbert Graham 1st of Morphie

Research Notes

John Graham's mother and Sir David Graham's wife may have been Elen or Helen Abernethy daughter of Laurence Abernethy Lord of Hawthorne according to a genealogical group discussion. https://groups.google.com/g/soc.genealogy.medieval/c/PEL7rqsrDyo/m/Ih1f4TWfDgAJ
